WOOHOO!

Hello, Bonjour and Guten Tag!

Let me tell you something. I can't successfully burn a dvd! I've never managed to do it, not on my first computer, and not on this one. I'm saying all this, I haven't tested the last one I did but I'm not holding out much hope for that one either, although it took so damn long that if it didn't burn, they may be a severe sense of humour failure in the Spelly house.

I'm telling you this for one very simple reason and it's one that pleases me no end and will probably make you roll your eyes... but first, I must tell you a story!

This past weekend was my birthday and I got old. Among my gifts was a new dvd player as my old one finally had a breakdown and died!
So today I set up the new one, who I need to name as I'm so happy with it that I think it needs to be christened.
Anyway, I set it up today and learnt that, unlike every other dvd player in the world it seems, this one is not multi region. This disappoints me no end as I have many dvds that aren't region 2.
Anyway, we all know what happened next so lets continue with the point of this tale.
The player does however have a USB connection so you could plug in a stick or some other device. I tried plugging in a random stick and I have no idea what was on it because it didn't work. It told me it was something called 'Guitar S', which means nothing to me as I don't play the guitar so I'm somewhat confused by this. I try and plug in my external harddrive - it's a stretch, I know - but it does display all the files on the drive and shows me the pictures...... it doesn't show me the films and videos though so again, more disappointment.

Anyhoo, I decide, having read the instructions that I should just be able to burn a data disc, rather than a formatted dvd.
I put a bunch of films (legally downloaded, thank you itunes) on this disc and, with no excitement or anticipation at all, I put the disc into the player.... and as I return to my chair to find the remote, there was a menu, with all the films!!! I feel my little heart do a happy dance in my chest before my brain overrides it and reminds me that I haven't actually SEEN the film, just the titles, so I press play and, I will admit, I hold my breath until........ BOOM!!!! IT WORKS!!!!

Now I know to all of you out there who burn discs all the time that I seem like a total idiot and I also know this! I can write basic HTML, I can remove viruses and trojans, I can do a bunch of technical shit, all self taught..... and yet, I just can't do that, it won't work for me and so this is a huge moment in my life and I thought I would share it with the whole of the interwebbiness who will probably rip the shit out of me for being so stupid but I don't care!
